Carly, So Far at MOCA

Carly, So Far, a photographic history of the development of France Bishop Good’s niece, is exhibited at MOCA until August 31st. The exhibit represent a young girl evolving to adolescence in today’s society. 904.366.6911

 

George Sand's birthday

Author George Sand (aka Amandine Aurore Lucile Dupin, Baronne Dudevant) was born on this day in 1804. She wore men’s clothing and smoked in public, pushing the early 19th century social boundaries. Novelist Ivan Turgenev said of her, "What a brave man she was, and what a good woman."

Kickoff Celebration for Light the Night

Join the Northern Florida Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for the Kickoff Celebration for Jacksonville's Light The Night Walk.  Light the Night is a 2-mile annual walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.  Festivities will begin at 6pm on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Downtown Public Library (Multipurpose Room).   At the Kickoff Celebration, you will learn about LLS, blood cancers and hear fundraising tips to help fight to find cures for blood cancers.  Entertainment will be provided by Radio Disney and food will be provided by Harry's Seafood Bar & Grill.   For more information contact Carolyn Romanski at 904-332-6414 ext. 303 or Carolyn.Romanski@lls.org.  You can register for the Walk online at www.lightthenight.org.
