Angela Nixon | Role Model

At 24, Angela ran for City Council District 10 last summer because she didn’t want to see her one-year-old daughter grow up in an area with an increasing crime rate. “People look at me like I’m a little girl out there,” she says. “You have to let them know that you mean business.” Although Angela didn’t win the election, she is still passionate about changing the community for the better. She currently works as a teen coordinator at the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation, and continues to look out for her daughter’s generation. “My daughter is a little girl and I’m a grown woman, and I want her to know that she can become anything she wants…She can be the next president of the United States. I’m just trying to be her role model,” she says. “I think being a mother is a plus in the political world.”
