It’s true, I am so stoked about putting my two cents in that I just can’t wait to vote. Yes, my opinion finally counts for something. No folks, it’s not just fodder for laughter; my opinion--and yours too--could change the world. Well, the US, anyway. And maybe how the world sees us and how we interact with the rest of the world...which depends a lot on how the rest of the world sees us. Well, that’s the way I feel anyway. (I didn’t want to keep you guessing.)
If you aren’t registered yet (ahem) then this is a good time to do it. Like, right now. Go here: I want to register right now! (Rockthevote.org) If you have moved since the last election, you have to re-register. Even if it was a simple apartment move, like mine.
It’s super easy. You will have to print it and mail it in by October 6th--Monday. Or you won’t get to vote. And you’ll feel really sad sitting there on the sidelines when every is talking about how they contributed or didn’t to whoever gets elected. Yes, you’ll feel very left out. And I know you don’t want that.
Another thing you could do is come to Get out the Vote this weekend and register to vote--and you’ll get a free drink. Yep, you will actually be rewarded for registering to cast your opinion. By golly, this is America!
Get out the Vote is going to be Saturday, October 4th (you got it--tomorrow!) from 11am to 8pm. There will be music, pizza, beer, political speakers and live bands. Oh, and voter registration applications. See how nicely that all fits together? That’s freedom. Also, not to be a feminist or anything--no, exactly to be a feminist, and proudly--but, women won the right to vote in 1920 after some pretty tough going: arrests, social isolation and backlash, starving and beating--all so that we have to be coaxed to vote via pizza, beer and music in 2008. Come on. We can do waaaay better than that. You deserve for your opnion to be heard. You really, really do.
Another benefit you will gain from showing up at Mavericks at the Landing tomorrow between 11am and 8pm, besides the obvious fun-having: you’ll get to stop by skirt! and we’ll give you a rockin’ cool skirt! power bracelet just for being you.
Learn more about the event here.
These are the issues specific to Florida that you can vote on after you are registered.
And if you are already registered, you don’t need this lecture, but I would love to see you tomorrow, too! Stop by and say hi. : )
