Early to bed and early to rise, booking it in heels, making things happen, and at the end of the day, enabling my consumer power…It’s a role I’ve wanted to play ever since I played dress-up in my mother’s black pumps and shoulder-padded suits.
My mother worked her way up from a dishwasher to the Director of Business Services. She worked full-time and woke up at 4am to study for her master’s degree. My father, who also worked full-time, took the night shift to watch over me and my sister during the day. It was a challenge. But I’m grateful for the women who fought for that challenge and crashed the boys-only club in the 1940’s.
Women are working hard these days at becoming the boss. We’ve made decisions for years regarding our families, and now we’re being trustedto make decisions that make us more money. More importantly, we’re not waiting for permission. We’re simply doing it. In this issue, five women speak out on what they love about being on top of the money-making scheme, and how they climbed to the top. None of them waited for a green light.
