He's So Original

Keith Doherty has been on vacation for eight years.

Keith, the general manager of Lynch’s Irish Pub, was born and raised in Ireland. He visited the United States eight years ago after earning his BA in English Law, and decided to stay on an extended vacation. “Instead of taking the Barr, I thought I’d work in one,” he says. The prime beach location enticed him. Also, he says, “There’s not that much entrenched here as far as old stereotypes of the South. It’s a young city.” After moving here, however, he found one thing missing that he couldn’t ignore: the lack of Irish culture. So, last April, he attempted to cook up some cultural festivities. He coordinated an Irish festival that attracted an energetic eight and a half thousand person turn-out at the fairgrounds, complete with bands, food, and of course, beer. “I’m trying to promote diversity,” he says. “It transcends gender, age and ethnicity.”

It’s just a liberating feeling. I never thought I’d be wearing a skirt and asked that.
