“I just can’t work for anyone!” protests Sharon, founder and owner of Déjà Vu Theatre. Sharon writes and directs most of the skits for the volunteer-based theatre company that produces shows meant to unite the Caribbean community. The company’s actors range from eight to thirty years old, some of Caribbean descent, and some not. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York, Sharon has dabbled in law and special education, and has owned restaurants and dance studios, but finally ended up here in Jacksonville running Déjà Vu Theatre. She started her first business at 25 years old. “My husband told me ‘no more restaurants’ because I never saw him!” she says. Sharon’s favorite part of owning and interacting with Déjà Vu Theater is teaching people to come together, and not just through parties, but through theatre. “No matter where you come from, you’re a human being,” she says.
