Amy Beckham, Stand-up Comedian

The last time I got my eyes checked wasn’t an amusing experience. But if Amy Beckham, Comedy Zone’s rare female stand-up comedian (who also frequents St. Augustine comedy venues), had been my optometrist, it would have been a good time. Practicing comedy on stage and in her optometry office is what she does best. She decided to be an optometrist in third grade, but she always knew she was funny. Going from wearing glasses to contacts when she was young made an impact on her. “I went from being an ugly funny person to an attractive funny person,” she says. With a 7 month-old baby, Amy produces many of her punchlines from personal experience. “Everyone thinks her kid is the prettiest and the funniest, but I think mine really is,” she quips.  “I had prepared myself for an ugly baby.”
