My sister and I drove from California to Jacksonville in less than a week in her Ford Explorer. We stuffed it to the brim with our most cherished belongings and for the sake of room I had to leave some of my precious shoes behind. It was an adventure fueled almost completely by fast food and anticipation of a new coast. Because of the age we live in, it is a pretty common adventure. If we wanted, we could pick up and leave for the Keys and arrive today, provided one could find a babysitter on such notice. We can drive to Jacksonville, Atlantic, and Neptune beaches in half an hour’s time, and dine downtown that evening. We can spend the weekend in St. Augustine and feel as though we’ve taken vacation hours away. The only excuse we have for remaining stationary is our own fear of flight. Many of us, like me, are not native to Jacksonville, and once took a chance on a blooming beachside community. This month, I remember the adventures I’ve embarked upon within Florida and abroad, and share with you the stories of several worldly women who have scratched the travel itch.

I just love your adventurous spirit! Oh the shoes- I know how you feel, we were just going the other way across the coast dropping shoes as if they were bread crumbs. Even my husband left some behind and he weeps his skeetchers and doc martens. My favorite shoe line, you have to check it out- ohdeershoes.com. You may have heard of them? They are oh so cute. No, they're sexy. They make you feel all woman even if you were wearing them with pajamas. I heart Skirt! Katia
