Azalia Torres | Adventurer

Growing up in Belize, Azalia desired to make a difference in the sugar industry. Following in her uncle’s footsteps in studying outside of the country, Azalia decided to study finance at UNF so she could use that knowledge when returning to Belize. Although she misses her family and her grandmother’s cooking—she only goes back every few months—she enjoys the education and shopping that Jacksonville offers her while she completes her degree in corporate finance. Where she grew up in Belize, malls weren’t common. “I don’t like spending money,” she says. “But, I love to window shop.” One thing that she says is especially different in the US from Belize is that people often live with their parents until marriage instead of moving out and living alone while going to college. That and the weather—even in Florida, she says that her first January in Jacksonville was comparatively cold!
