Doreen Flippin | Donor
“I visited the Philippines and when I saw children living in the streets, I thought, how could I have been absent for so long?” says Doreen, who grew up in the Philippines and moved to Jacksonville at age 21. Upon her return to the US, she researched ways to help. Working for the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation, a national organization that funds education, Doreen realized she could use her background in the non profit industry to initiate a program to aid Filipino children. In 2005, she founded Move on Philippines, a nonprofit organization that helps educate poor Filipino children through donating books and school supplies. Books are so precious in the Philippines that they often end up being sold in underground markets, but Doreen ensures that the books end up in schools when she visits them. “Trying to make a difference, I feel like I’m a dollar richer,” she says.
