I have this problem where I can’t seem to keep a single plant alive. I water them. Am I watering too much or too little?
I can keep my cats alive. I think it’s because they whine for food. Maybe I need a reminder--like an alarm or something.
I inherited this un-green thumb from my dad. He met my mom when he asked her to water his sister’s plants for him while his sister was on vacation. They lived in the same apartment complex. Cute story, huh?
My orchids are dying fast, though. Tips, anyone?

I give them to my mother. That's the only way my plants ever make it.

Girl, I feel you. I have a dog, and if she didn't whine/bark when she needed something...well, I wouldn't have her anymore. In fact, I have three fried-out potted plants on my balcony just begging to be thrown away as I type.
About the orchids, I've always thought of them as the jocks of the flower world. I can buy a bushel, and keep 'em going for well over a month! I just change the water weekly (or whenever it turns brownish-green), and every time I change it, I trim about another inch off the bottom of the stem. I also prune off any dead leaves, and that usually keeps them going strong.
Great post.
