“I can’t help but be loud,” says Alexis Cone, solo guitar and piano artist, who was born and raised in Jacksonville. “If music makes you feel something and if it has helped you, then it serves its purpose. That’s good music.”
Alexis, 22, played her first show at Jack Rabbits in 2004. Known for her acoustic guitar and vocals, she has recently become interested in playing piano. At age 11, Alexis wrote music and lyrics before she even started playing guitar.
She was introduced to her first acoustic guitar on Christmas in 1998. Now she plays frequently at Freebird Live and Jack Rabbits. “I like bold female music,” she says. “It’s sad, because as far as women go in this scene, there aren’t a lot. When America fell in love with music, men were the musicians. Male music has been heard more than female music.”
