Nostalgia Anyone?

Thursday, August, 7, 2008

Today I’m going to give y’all a run down of my musical background.  I was uber lucky to have music introduced to me at an extremely young age.  One of my first memories involving tunes was as a toddler rolling around the living room floor hearing my parents listening to GeorgeStrait’s 1986 Greatest Hits while vacationing in LakeAnna.  Songs like Amarillo By Morning, Right or Wrong and Unwound will always take me back to a time when I would eat Corn Flakes on my Dad’s lap and stuff caterpillars into my dress pockets.  On road trips to visit family in North Carolina we listened to tapes; The Kentucky Headhunters, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Rosanne Cash, Shanondoah, The Allman Brothers and Dwight Yokam.  Vinyl was a big part of my world as a child too.  My parents had quite a collection.  I remember sitting for hours looking at the album covers of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Lynard Skynard, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Jackson Browne, and Neil Young (Harvest, my favorite!).  They also had a compilation of 45’s that I adored and still do.  They included music by the Beatles, The Zombies, Herman’s Hermits (Mrs. Brown you’ve got a lovely daughter), The Mamas and the Papas, Harpers Bizarre, The Band, Tommy Roe (Dizzy), Tommy James and the Shondells, Donovan and The Shocking Blue.  I would play these records over and over.  The other day I came across an old Snoopy Vs. The Red Barren clip on you tube that I was crazy about as a kid.  These brought me back!  Check it out!
